An Operating System is the basic software which controls a computer. It takes care of the way your hardware functions, the communication with peripheral devices such as a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between the installed applications, and the prioritization of apps when several run at the same time. Every program that is installed on a computer works by sending requests to the OS for different services using an application program interface (API). The communication with the OS can be performed using a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the Internet hosting field, the Operating System is what runs a web server along with any software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition every other application for example a VOIP or a game server. If there are virtual machines created, they employ a guest OS which is run on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

If you select one of our VPS server plans, you will have as many as 3 different Operating Systems to pick from - CentOS, Debian and Ubuntu. They're all Linux distributions and we offer them instead of offering just a single OS, since the applications that you may wish to run on the server could have specific requirements about the software environment. Each of the three has some pros regarding the available plans that you could later on install, but what's common between them is that they're very stable and dependable and have vast communities which support them. The web hosting Control Panel options for the VPS accounts depend on your OS choice, in order to provide you with more flexibility. If you order the virtual server with one OS and you need a different one later, our tech support team can easily reinstall the VPS with the new one in a matter of minutes. We also offer you the option to maintain the Operating System on your server up-to-date weekly.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

If you decide to purchase one of our dedicated servers, you will find three Operating Systems on the registration page because we want to give you a broader choice for the system environment on the machine as different applications may have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian include different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and take advantage of a stable and safe Internet hosting service. Based on your selection, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always change the Operating System in case the one you have selected in the beginning doesn't meet the requirements of the software which you want to run. We can also update the OS regularly to keep it as secure as possible through our Managed Services upgrade package.
